What happens after you pay
Four steps, with the timing counted from your payment. The first two are ours; the USPTO sets the pace of the last two.
- Intake (Today): Right after payment you complete a short intake: who owns the mark, how you use it, and a specimen if it is already in use.
- Filing (Within 2 business days of intake): Your attorney prepares and files the application and pays the USPTO fee on your behalf. You receive the serial number and filing receipt by email.
- USPTO examination (The months that follow): A USPTO examining attorney reviews the application. If they raise an office action, your attorney responds; non-technical responses are included in the fee.
- Registration (About 8 to 12 months in): If nothing blocks it, the USPTO publishes the mark for 30 days, then registers it and issues the certificate. Intent-to-use filings add a statement of use first.

What does it cost to register one trademark?
$800 for one mark in one class: the $450 attorney fee plus the $350 USPTO filing fee. There are no hourly charges and no add-ons for the search, the consultation, or non-technical office action responses.
Is there a discount for registering several trademarks?
Yes. The first application carries the full $450 attorney fee; every further application in the same order is $300, because the search and the intake are shared. What is a class, and how many do I need?
The USPTO sorts goods and services into 45 classes and charges $350 for each class you file in. A clothing brand usually needs one class; a company that sells products and runs a service often needs two. Our free check suggests classes from a plain-English description of what you sell, and your attorney confirms them before filing.
What if I need more than one class?
The attorney fee covers the application whatever the class count. Each extra class adds the USPTO's $350, nothing more. Your attorney confirms the exact class list with you before anything is filed; the calculator above prices up to 5 classes.
What is the $200 custom identification surcharge?
The USPTO keeps a manual of pre-approved descriptions of goods and services. When your goods fit one of those entries, the filing fee is $350 per class. When they need a description written from scratch, the USPTO adds $200 per class. Your attorney uses manual entries wherever they describe your business accurately, tells you before filing if a custom description is the right call, and bills the surcharge as its own charge when it applies, never inside the quoted price.
Are USPTO filing fees refundable?
No. The $350 filing fee goes directly to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is not refunded, even if an application is refused. That is why we screen and have an attorney review before we file.
What does the money-back guarantee cover?
If the USPTO refuses your application because of a conflicting mark that our search should have found, we refund the attorney fee you paid for that application. It does not cover USPTO fees or refusals for other reasons, such as a descriptive mark or inaccurate information provided in the application.
When am I charged, and what happens next?
You pay at checkout: the attorney fees and the USPTO fees for every class on every application in your order, itemised before you pay. Your attorney reviews your intake, contacts you within one to two business days if anything needs clarifying, and files your application within two business days of a completed intake.
Are there costs after registration?
Yes, but not from us. To keep a registration alive you file maintenance documents with the USPTO between years five and six, and again every ten years. The USPTO sets those fees separately. We send you reminders well ahead of each deadline.
